After months of training carb loading, the HyVee Triathlon was here again! We were all a little stressed. I had been having some health issues, so hadn't been on my bike much. Danielle had strep. We just weren't sure how we would complete the race. Thankfully the universe decided to help us out! Due to flooding, the race was cut from an Olympic distance tri to a sprint tri. Yippee!
Mom decided she would take Dani's place, so we were back in business! Melissa and Robb joined us Saturday afternoon, and we got all registered and ready to rock! Melissa and I bought some AMAZING matching swimsuits for next year. I better quit eating now so that thing fits.
After a delicious dinner at Dos Rios, we got our tattoos on and took our team picture.
The weather was beautiful!
Our goal for this year was to finish in less time than last year! Mission accomplished!
Oh, Sammy ... I feel the same way!
After the race, Dani lined up a babysitter for the boys. We went over to Americana for an AMAZING dinner. A family friend happened to be working in the bar that even, so our drinks were strong and many extra items arrived throughout the evening at our table.
Dinner was fabulous and we took a quick jaunt around the sculpture park.
The next morning the boys enjoyed a quick dip in the pool before we checked out of the hotel.
After that, we played at a park by Grandma's house and then packed up the car to head home.
On our way home, just as we turned to take our exit, it rained for a just a few minutes. We got to enjoy this beautiful rainbow for the rest of our drive. Like a big hug from heaven.
I'm so glad we were able to complete another triathlon in Dad's memory. It's always an emotional weekend, but it's also such a blessing to be able to gather together to celebrate someone we miss so much.
