Black Friday! - November 28

We decided to brave the crowds and do a little Black Friday shopping.  We started off the morning with breakfast at Village Inn.

We found a lot of cute stuff we "needed" at Kohls.  Thankfully the people in front of us shared their cart, which made the hour wait go by much quicker.   Jimmy Johns was handing out free sandwiches too, so we had a snack in line to pass the time.

We had originally planned to spend the weekend with the girls in Ames, but LuLu was sick, so we ended up coming home early.  We made it back just in time to dump off our stuff and head to town to see Penguins of Madagascar in 3D.  The movie was awesome, and it's hard to beat popcorn for dinner.

Thanksgiving Blessings

Sometimes it's still completely surreal to me everything that's changed over the last year and a half.    But one day at a time, we're getting through.   Thanksgiving was actually pretty darn happy this year.

The boys decided they needed some snow for an appetizer.

I was attempting to figure out the right location for the camera to be for a self-timed group shot.  The result was this nerdy pic of me running backwards and jumping into the shot before the camera went off.  I've never thought Dani and I actually looked alike, but I'd say we do in this photo.

An amazingly successful family photo!

And it wouldn't be Thanksgiving, without pie.  Apparently Linc and Sammy are big pie fans.

After our lovely meal, Brad and Linc went over to Iowa City and Dave went to Ames to get some work done and hang with the dogs.

We got some Christmas decorating started.  For some silly reason, we decided to listen to a Christmas music on Pandora.  The first song was the song Dani and I both walked down the aisle to with Dad at our weddings, so that resulted in a few tears.  Then one of Bev's favorite songs came on.
Adios, Pandora, killer of joy.

After deciding the Christmas tree was depressing, we hopped in the car and went to brave all the crazy Black Friday shoppers at Walmart to score a new Christmas tree.  It was a zoo, but we got our tree and checked out all before the insanity started at 6 p.m. with Black Friday deals.

McDonald's had just opened, so the boys and Dani enjoyed cheeseburgers on our way back to the house.  Hey, if McDonald's and Walmart doesn't scream Thanksgiving fun, I don't know what does!

After the boys were asleep, we watched Holiday In Handcuffs on Netflix.  Ha!  Wow is all I can say.

The day was a great reminder of how far we've come over the last 15 months and how blessed we all are to have each other.

Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving ...

We loaded up the car and drove to Ankeny to begin our Thanksgiving celebrations this year.  We arrived Wednesday evening and met Dani and Linc at HyVee to grab some snacks.  The boys were a little excited to see each other.  Henry and Linc were singing as loud as possible while we rolled through the aisles. It was pretty entertaining.

We took our snacks back to Mom's house and enjoyed a delicious dinner of cheesy potatoes and ham balls. YUM!

I borrowed the fancy camera to take our informal Christmas card pictures, and the boys had a great time being little hams.  I guess you are what you eat :)

After dinner, the boys all snuggled up on the couches downstairs to watch cartoons.

Seriously, Chef Andrew makes the best dip!

Family Photo Day - November 22

Saturday after basketball, we drove to town to get our pictures taken for Christmas cards.  Everyone was very well-behaved and we got quite a few cute shots of these guys.

Henry wanted a hamburger, so we ended up grabbed lunch after.  Apparently Sam used all his smiles up earlier in the day.

Ah.  One left.  I should mention that we got behind schedule,
so lunch was at 2:30.    Everyone was starving (or maybe just I was) so I'm glad the boys we made it through pictures without any major meltdowns.
Henry discovered my new car has a moon roof,
so he decided he had to check it out.

A Family Announcement

Now that it's Facebook official, I'm happy to announce I'm going to be an aunt again!   Looking forward to having another adorable niece or nephew to spoil.

Jammies

I love these little men.

Wine Not Whine

For once we enjoyed an evening of wining ... which made the whining more tolerable.   Thanks for the wine, Mammie and Pa!   It was fab.
