Dave and I were discussing vacation options. We both decided traveling didn't really sound appealing, so we ended up planning a trip across the river to Omaha. We never get to go out, so it was fun to check out some of the restaurants in town that we've wanted to try but never had the chance to.
Our first stop was First Watch. First Watch was our absolute favorite breakfast place when we lived in Overland Park, Kansas. We were ridiculously excited when we found out there was a location opening in Omaha.
Bloody Marys were absolutely necessary since we were on vacation.
First Watch was everything we expected it to be. My fruity chicken salad (the only thing I've EVER ordered) was exactly as I remember it. SO DARN GOOD! I could eat it every day for breakfast and never get sick of it.
While we enjoyed brunch, Henry, Sam, and Mammey went to the park.
They decorated pumpkins in the afternoon.
Henry even borrowed some leaves from the neighbors' yard to play in.
Apparently Dave told the hotel it was our anniversary, so they sent up this lovely cheese tray and wine. Yum! Thanks for the early anniversary gift, Hilton!!
After a trip to the gym and a few episodes of Law & Order, we walked down to Old Market for dinner. I had purchased a Groupon to V. Mertz. We were very excited to get to use it. Dave took the liberty of ordering our drinks, which resulted in us drinking Absinthe. They didn't have slotted spoons or sugar cubes, so while it wasn't the traditional preparation, it was still REALLY good. The sommelier described it as an aggressive absinthe. He wasn't kidding!
Our dinner was AMAZING. We'll definitely go back.
We stopped by the slides on the way to the hotel. I had a skirt on, so sadly couldn't participate in the fun.
Saturday morning, we went to Take Aim in Bellevue. I'm now equipped to defend myself in case of Zombie Attack. Guns are scary. Won't be rushing back to do that again soon ... although I did get a commemorative t-shirt.
We enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Block 16. SO good. I've been wanting to try it for a while, and it was delicious. We'll definitely have to try to get back there in the near future.
After a trip to the gym to counteract all the fun, we wandered out for drinks and appetizers. Dave picked a sushi place we hadn't tried before. From then on out, we decided I was in charge of picking restaurants. It was not amazing.
Omaha was definitely a great idea for our "vacation" this year. Great restaurants and a VERY short drive.
